Les Poids
Du Regard
A stochastic audio release structured around the mechanics of AI self-attention. Four poems act as a narrative arc of a machine's gaze. Each poem holds a pool of eight audio variations. On every visit the browser selects one variation per pool at random, producing 4,096 unique pressings — no two listeners are guaranteed the same experience.
The Arc — Self-Attention as Temperature
A1
THE QUERY / The Light Strike
Initializing focus. Low temperature, high stability. The machine turns its gaze outward for the first time.
A2
THE KEY / The Aperture
Narrowing focus. Mechanical filtering, decision-making. The attention window contracts around signal.
A3
THE DROPOUT / The Eclipse
Strategic forgetting. Increasing entropy. Detail is sacrificed to survive the weight of attention.
A4
HALLUCINATION / The Solar Flare
Total collapse. High temperature, fractal burnout. The gaze consumes what it was trying to see.
Ground Truth / Transduction
Each track layers English spoken word with Solresol — a 19th century constructed language built entirely from the seven musical notes (Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si). In this system Solresol operates as the machine's ground truth: the raw, unambiguous signal beneath language. The English is the transduction — meaning that has passed through a lossy channel, gaining heat and distortion as the arc progresses.
The Solresol notation occupies the full frame for the duration of each track. The English transduction exists only in the liner notes — the meaning is not displayed, only the signal.
Pressing
Each session draws one variation per track at random, producing a unique combination across the four pools. The resulting pressing number — 1 to 4,096 — is deterministic: the same set of variations always yields the same pressing. Heat cracks appear in the viewport on tracks A3 and A4, seeded by your pressing number — unique to this combination.
Your pressing is displayed in the interface. It will not repeat until all 4,096 have been issued.
